Short Bio of Byron Groves -
Clients naturally want to know WHO their attorney is and his background. So, this attempts to answer those curiosities.
Byron Groves was born in 1942 in Toledo Ohio and moved to and lived in Detroit, Mich. until he was 14. He traveled all over Michigan including its upper peninsula. Then at 14, his preacher father moved the family to Daytona Beach, Florida, where he “grew up” and graduated from High School. He lived just a few miles from the Daytona Race Track and attended the old races when they were on the beach. He still has close friends from his high school there.
Next came The University of Florida where he watched John Glenn's capsule fly overhead and became heavily involved in campus politics and thereby with Florida’s future leaders being admitted to Florida Blue key, one of whose members was later the Fla. Chief Justice who ruled on the Nixon chads. Another close friend became one of the 5 Congressmen who lead the impeachment of Pres. Clinton. Even Byron's roommate became mayor of Jacksonville. Florida was and is highly political.
Law School though was back to his family’s heritage since 1810 at the University of Louisville, home of the papers of US Supreme Court Justices Brandeis and Vinson, 3rd oldest law school this side of the Virginia Alleghenies where he graduated 3rd in his graduating class, but even the best made little money there.
During law school summer, he worked for John VanDeKamp then Assistant Attorney General in Los Angeles who became Director of all US Attorneys General for the USA. During that summer, Byron worked at Griffith Observatory succeeding in making it’s Lyot Sun Filter to see flares on the sun and Solar deatil for first time in 35 years. The final summer was working for a US Congressional candidate doing legal and other research, which continued back at law school.
After law school, Pepperdine University was next step where he became Assistant Dean of its then newly acquired law school. His primary work there was obtaining its accreditation, which it did. Since then it has acquired prestigous professors and even Kenneth Staar, former US Solicitor General as Dean for awhile. Many practicing attorneys were admitted to this law school by Byron.
Wanting to actually practice law, Byron next obtained employment with one of the busiest and most respected Orange Co., CA. attorneys. There he watched super competency and very very hard work - an example which is fully appreciated.
Byron's independent personality lead to becoming a sole attorney, though while being with 3 others, a landlord of over a dozen attorneys while spending much time in divorce, contract disputes, creating businesses, and estate settlement, his favorite as it saved client's wealth and families by preventing squabbles.
Outside of law practice, there was a life to lead such as Pres. Of Sons of the American Revolution, Orange County Astronomers (now 3rd largest in the world), and Republican Associates President, manager for Anaheim Convention Center’s reception in Nixon campaign. Sundays attends religious services in a Churches of Christ, his family heritage since 1832, but visits others. Landscape photography like Ansel Adams' & visiting the site of "Moonrise, Hernandez, NM" and collecting SW Native Americans' artifacts (Maria Guitterez, Navajo Rugs) & Revolutionary War history
convinces me that this land has been preserved by God!
Marriage to a school teacher and 2 kids, now in school administration and physical therapy and 6 grand kids slowed down public activities but not his lifelong interest & devotion to astronomy. Grinding & “figuring” telescope mirrors lead to becoming Chairman of the Trustees for 5 years of the Planetary Science Institute, one of 3 independent such institutes in the USA wholly supported by NASA now with 4 dozen scientist all over the world, 2 of who convinced the scientific world that our Moon came from a Mars-size impact of the Earth. Eugene and his very gracious wife Carolyn, the real discovery of the Shoemaker-Levy Comet and David Levy, a true inspirer of kids for astronomer, were some on his board of trustees along with original directors at JPL and managers of early Moon landings. HEADY & MEANINGFUL FUN! Meanwhile, collecting star-dust meteorites, while investing in real estate around our nation have been his “hobbies”. His research on the law of meteorite ownership since even Jesus' parable the "Pearl of Great Price" proves that the finder has rights and not just its land-owner where they are found or Caesar. In truth, no one legally “owns” them, as his upcoming book will demonstrate.
Each of we individuals truly has real God-given talents to be honored when their financial estates are planned to save costs and prevent family squabbles when those are finally disbursed by probate or hopefully by trust provisions.
